It is sunny...finally

I am so glad that it is finally becoming nice out. It is difficult to plan and participate in activities class when the weather is miserable outside. I am in Striking and Fielding, and the class is fun but also stressful. We are participating in softball right now and the field house is just not large enough to house all the students and the activity we are in. Now that the weather is becoming nicer, it makes the class more enjoyable because there is more space available and less equipment for the students to hurt themselves on.

Fitness Testing

In my Health field next week, we are fitness testing the students. Today my Mentor and I were discussing the which fitness test we should administer. We were talking the benefits of the Presidential and Fitnessgram. We ended up choosing the Fitnessgram program to administer because it focuses more on the individual and then comparing the student on a pass or fail system. The unit we are teaching the students is Fitness and my Mentor is including the Fitness test to educate the students on their fitness levels and to prepare them for P.E. next year. I was so impressed by this because it shows different classes working together to achieve greatness for the students.

Frontpage

As you believe we have been working with Frontpage to create a webpage for TECH PETE. I just want to say, although Frontpage is a good resource, it is a pain to work. It took me a while to find out where everything was on the screen and how everything works. When I finally finished the webpage project, I found out that none of my pages linked together. So after redoing all the links I just want to say that I am very happy that the E-folio can be done in Word!

Gymnastics

I am taking gymnastics this semester and found out that it is a very hard sport. Some of the skills we are learning are for beginners and we find ourselves having difficulty performing them. I have also learned to perform the skills in gymnastics one must have upper body strength and be short in stature. I give people who practice and perform gymnastics on a daily status a lot of credit.

Phys Ed

Why does everyone think that PE teachers are just there to observe the students? I mean we go to college to become educated in the field. We work hard to become PE teachers, yet people still look down on us. I wish other teachers could just spend on day in our shoes just to see what it is like. I don't believe they would last. But maybe it's because in our field we do have those teachers that are like that.

Field Experience

I love working in the field. I think we gain so much knowledge from being from field. In our PE and Health classes we are taught what to teach but the classes don't really help you find your personal teaching style. I love field because you get a hand-on experience with real students in a real environment. For a some it is a real eye opener, and they decide this career is not for them. While others like me, love the experience and can't wait to go and teach in the real world.

Health at SRU

I don't how many people right now are taking 462, but thank goodness for that class. In our program Physical Education we have so many classes for teaching in the Gymnasium setting. Don't misunderstand me, I'm very happy we I have taken them. They are prepared me to be more comfortable teaching in front of a class. What I'm am worried about is that, we don't receive enough time in the Health aspect of our program. W e only take three classes for health and only one of them, we actually have a chance to teach in front of "real" students. I wish our program would give us more opportunity in the health field. I have heard from so many student teachers that one of the hardest parts of student teaching is teaching health.

Parking

I have noticed that there is not enough parking on this campus. I know people including myself that leave early from our apartments to come to campus a half an hour before our classes starts and still cannot find parking. Instead we are forced to park in staff, 2 hour parking or on the side streets near campus. We ask ourselves, "then why are we paying so much for a parking pass that we don't even use" and to top this problem off, SRU campus police have raised the price of parking tickets too. We just wonder if they know that we are poor college students and if they provided more parking spots maybe we wouldn't have a problem.
